According to Eulji Foundation on December 22, Chairman Park visited the Eulji Unit of the 12th Army Division in Inje County, Gangwon Province on December 19 and delivered a defense donation of 25 million won.
This donation is intended to boost morale and improve the welfare of soldiers serving on the front lines of national defense.
Chairman Park’s donations are not one-off acts of support, but rather a continuous practice of expressing gratitude for the dedication of the armed forces.
The total amount of personal donations made by Chairman Park to military units has reached 375 million won this year, including 25 million won donated in January.
This is an expression of respect and trust for the efforts of the soldiers who have supported national security. In particular, this donation holds special significance as it comes ahead of the foundation’s 70th anniversary.
The foundation is conveying its gratitude to the soldiers who have dedicated themselves to national security through its 70th anniversary slogan, "70 Years Thanks to You, Together for 100 Years."
This is to remind everyone that the foundation and today’s Republic of Korea have been able to build a 70-year history thanks to the quiet dedication of those who have protected the country.
At the donation ceremony, Chairman Park stated, "It is thanks to the dedication of the soldiers who have quietly carried out their duties on the front lines of national defense that we are able to speak of our daily lives and our future today," adding, "On the occasion of the foundation’s 70th anniversary, I wanted to remember that gratitude and, together with national security, move forward toward the next 100 years by making this donation."
Since 2010, after establishing a connection with the Eulji Unit, which shares the name "Eulji" with the foundation, Chairman Park has been donating his personal funds annually as a defense contribution to honor the dedication and patriotism of General Eulji Mundeok.
Eulji Foundation and the Eulji Unit formed a sisterhood partnership in January 2011 and have since maintained a relationship as partners supporting national development in their respective fields of education, healthcare, and security.
In addition to donating defense funds, Chairman Park also donated inherited assets worth approximately 16 billion won in 2013 to Eulji Hospital, a medical corporation under the foundation, Eulji Academy, an educational corporation, and the Bumseok Academic Scholarship Foundation. He has also practiced sharing in various fields, including the Community Chest of Korea and the ChildFund Korea.
The predecessor of Eulji Hospital under Eulji Foundation was "Park Obstetrics and Gynecology," opened by the late founder Park Youngha in 1956 at Taepyeongno 2-ga and later at Euljiro 3-ga in Seoul. The name "Eulji" reflects the founder’s intention to perpetuate public values beyond individual interests.
This spirit continues to this day and serves as the foundation for Eulji Foundation’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities to the nation and society.
Furthermore, Eulji Foundation, inheriting the founder’s spirit of patriotism, strives to create a society where dedication to the country is respected by providing various medical benefits to families of distinguished military service at Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital, Daejeon Eulji University Hospital, and Nowon Eulji University Hospital, all under the foundation.
It is also known that Chairman Park’s family has faithfully fulfilled their military duties.
Chairman Park’s late father, Park Youngha, volunteered as a military doctor during the Korean War and devoted himself to treating wounded soldiers in field hospitals. His late mother, Jeon Jeunghee, also served as a nurse officer, participating in the war and contributing to the care of wounded soldiers and the advancement of military nursing.
The dedication of this couple, who met on the battlefield, continues to serve as a model in the medical community to this day.
A representative of Eulji Foundation stated, "With the understanding that the foundation’s 70 years have been possible thanks to the dedication of the soldiers, we will continue to fulfill our role as a public foundation safeguarding national security and the lives of the people for the next 100 years."
