The Ministry of National Defense's Constitution Respect and Government Innovation Task Force (TF) has decided to request disciplinary action against more than ten individuals involved in the December 3 Martial Law.
On December 22, Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Jeong Bitna stated at a regular briefing, "The Investigation and Analysis Office, which is part of the Constitution Respect TF, is currently reviewing the ministry's internal audit results. The Constitution Respect TF plans to request disciplinary action against more than ten individuals today."
According to sources inside and outside the military, those subject to disciplinary action are reportedly individuals who boarded the so-called "martial law bus" during the December 3 Martial Law. Previously, a bus carrying 34 Army Headquarters staff members departed from the Army Headquarters at Gyeryongdae for Seoul at around 3 a.m. on December 4 last year, after the National Assembly voted to lift martial law, but returned after 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Investigation and Analysis Office, led by Colonel Park Junghoon, is reviewing the results of the ministry's internal audit on martial law conducted between August and October. Spokesperson Jeong stated, "The Constitution Respect TF is sequentially requesting disciplinary action for cases where the review by the Investigation and Analysis Office has been completed," adding, "We will be able to provide more details once the cases have been referred to the disciplinary committee."
