Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province conducted an online vote from December 10 to 16, 2025, inviting citizens to select the 'Top 10 News Stories of Hanam City for 2025' over a seven-day period.
To ensure objectivity, 20 candidate news items were first carefully selected based on recommendations from the press corps and other keywords. Citizens then cast up to three votes each to determine the final rankings. A total of 3,261 citizens participated in the vote, demonstrating strong interest in municipal affairs.
The top news story chosen by citizens, with 1,201 votes, was 'Approval for Subway Line 3 Extension to Hanam... Residents' Opinions Reflected in Shindukpung Station Location Adjustment.' Citizens highly valued the reduction of travel time from Gyosan to Seoul's Gangnam district to around 40 minutes, as well as the improved accessibility to both the old downtown and new town areas through the adjustment of station locations.
The second and third most selected news stories were 'Groundbreaking for Yonsei Hanam Hospital... Hanam City to Open General Hospital Era in 2027' (1,069 votes) and 'Swift, On-Site, and Communicative Administration Proves Effective... First City Nationwide to Receive Presidential Award for Civil Service Two Years in a Row' (777 votes), respectively. These results reflect citizens' longstanding desire to attract a university hospital and their satisfaction with improved administrative service quality, such as the one-stop civil service system.
Other top stories included 'Hanam City Establishes Water Pollution Source Management Measures for K-Star World Project' (726 votes), 'Camp Colbern Eases "GB Guidelines" and Gyosan Secures "Industrial Quota"... Unlocking Barriers to Attracting Businesses' (676 votes), 'Plan to Establish Hanam Education Support Office, the First in the Nation, in the First Half of Next Year... Hanhol Middle School Opening Also on Track' (458 votes), and '"The World Watched, and Citizens Enjoyed" - Successful K-pop Challenge and Music Festival' (451 votes).
Additionally, '2025 Hanam City Job Fair Attracts Over 2,300 Visitors On-Site... Up 227% from Previous Year' (446 votes), 'Hanam City Reviews First Pre-Negotiation for Urban Planning Change to Attract "Five-Star Hotel"' (425 votes), and 'Resolution of Conflict with LH over Expansion of Gam-il Sewage Treatment Plant' (419 votes) were also among the top 10 news stories.
Mayor Lee Hyunjae stated, "The results of this vote show that citizens are highly interested in news related to the expansion of metropolitan transportation networks, the development of medical infrastructure, and regulatory improvements for attracting businesses-all closely tied to the city's development and daily life." He added, "We will thoroughly analyze the Top 10 News Stories chosen and supported by citizens and continue to implement policies that citizens can truly feel in their everyday lives."
