The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization has developed and distributed the "Sustainable MICE Guidelines of Gyeonggi Province" to promote sustainable growth in the province's MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industry.
These guidelines have been prepared to reflect the global trend toward sustainable development as well as the direction of domestic tourism and MICE policies.
Notably, the guidelines are significant in that they serve as a Gyeonggi-specific standard encompassing environmental protection, realization of social value, and responsible governance. Rather than remaining at the level of declarative standards, they are structured as a practical checklist that can be immediately applied in actual work.
The guidelines include actionable items throughout the entire MICE process, such as: ▲eco-friendly event planning and operation ▲carbon and waste reduction ▲consideration of inclusivity and accessibility ▲contribution to the local community and economy ▲transparent communication with stakeholders.
Additionally, the guidelines present operational standards that take into account the digital environment, such as personal information protection and information accessibility during registration, promotion, and operation. They also specify the roles and implementation standards for each stakeholder, including organizers, convention centers (venues), and participants.
The guidelines will be distributed to cities, counties, and MICE-related organizations within the province, and can be accessed through the Gyeonggi MICE website (ggtour.or.kr/gmice). In the future, the province plans to expand the use of these guidelines across all MICE projects by offering incentives such as additional support funds based on compliance with the guideline items at MICE events held in the province, while continuously supplementing the guidelines with new case studies.
A representative of the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization stated, "Sustainable MICE is now a necessity, not a choice," adding, "Through these guidelines, the province and the organization will present hosting standards based on trust and responsibility across all aspects of MICE, and actively support Gyeonggi Province in becoming a sustainable MICE destination with international competitiveness."
