From Ancestors' Land to Personal Property

Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Shin Sangjin) announced on December 22 that it is providing an administrative service for 'land digital data inquiry' utilizing the National Land Information Integrated Platform, aiming for efficient land management and protection of citizens' property rights.
This service has been established to help protect the rights of heirs by quickly and accurately providing land digital data, even in cases where land owned by ancestors cannot be identified due to neglect in property management or unforeseen circumstances.
The land digital data inquiry service is available both offline and online. For offline applications, citizens can visit the Land Information Division at City Hall or the Civil Service Division at a nearby district office and submit identification and the required documents. For online applications, users can search for the 'Find Ancestor's Land' or 'Find My Land' services, or access the K-Geo platform website to register a joint authentication certificate and supporting documents before making an inquiry.
Inquiries about land owned by ancestors can only be made by those with inheritance rights. For ancestors who passed away before January 1, 1960, only the eldest son may apply in accordance with the principle of eldest son inheritance. For those who passed away after that date, any heir may apply.
A Seongnam City official stated, "We plan to continuously operate the land digital data inquiry service to protect citizens' property rights and enhance administrative convenience," adding, "We hope for active interest and use of the service by citizens to realize smart land administration."
