Venerable Beopryun’s Connection with Kim Woobin
It has drawn attention that Venerable Beopryun officiated the wedding of actors Kim Woobin (36) and Shin Minah (41), who tied the knot after a decade of their relationship being public.
The couple held a private wedding ceremony on December 20 at the Shilla Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, inviting only family and close friends. Venerable Beopryun officiated the ceremony.
Venerable Beopryun is known to have been a significant source of spiritual support for Kim Woobin during his battle with nasopharyngeal cancer in 2017. In 2019, Kim Woobin was spotted attending a Buddha's Birthday celebration ceremony in Bucheon with his close friend Jo Insung.
In May of this year, Kim Woobin and Shin Minah also attracted attention by attending a Buddha's Birthday event together at the Jungto Social and Cultural Center in Seocho-dong, Seoul. The Jungto Social and Cultural Center is operated by Jungto Society, led by Venerable Beopryun.
The wedding was reportedly attended by a large number of prominent figures from the film, drama, and entertainment industries, including BTS member V, Gong Hyojin, Ryu Junyeol, Kim Taeri, Uhm Junghwa, Bae Jungnam, Yoo Haejin, Kim Euisung, Go Dooshim, Nam Joohyuk, Park Kyunglim, Ahn Bohyun, Lee Seyoung, Lee Byunghun, Yoon Kyungho, producer Na Youngseok, and writer Kim Eunsook. The guest list alone was said to be reminiscent of an awards ceremony.
Before their wedding, the couple also practiced sharing with others. Their agency, AM Entertainment, announced that Kim Woobin and Shin Minah donated a total of 300 million won to several organizations, including the Hallym Burn Foundation, Seoul Asan Medical Center, and the international relief organization Good Friends.
Kim Woobin and Shin Minah first met in 2014 while filming a commercial together, and began dating in 2015. Shin Minah stayed by Kim Woobin's side throughout his battle with nasopharyngeal cancer, from his diagnosis in 2017 until he was declared fully recovered in 2019.
Meanwhile, Venerable Beopryun is a peace activist, thinker, and practitioner who has conducted "immediate question, immediate answer" sessions for decades. Recently, he published a conversation book focused on concise statements that instantly stop complex thoughts, titled "Tak! Dialogue of Enlightenment" (Jungto Publishing). In the foreword, "What Is Enlightenment?", the author defines these sessions as "dialogues of enlightenment aimed at immediately escaping suffering here and now."
