According to major foreign media outlets such as AFP on December 21 (local time), at around 1 a.m. that day, a group of more than ten men arrived in two vehicles at a bar in Bekkersdal, on the outskirts of Johannesburg, and opened fire on the patrons.

The assailants continued to shoot randomly as they fled the scene. Among the victims was a ride-hailing service driver who was outside the bar.

Police have launched a search operation to track down the suspects. This incident marks the second mass shooting in South Africa this month. On the 6th, a shooting spree by an assailant at a hostel in the capital city of Pretoria left twelve people dead.

According to local police statistics, South Africa is one of the countries with the highest homicide rates in the world, with an average of 63 people killed per day between April and September of this year.
