Jung-gu Finalizes Next Year’s Budget at 612.9 Billion Won, Surpassing 600 Billion for the First Time

6.21% Increase Over This Year's Main Budget
Budget Focused on Projects That Directly Impact Residents

The Jung-gu district of Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gilseong) has finalized its budget for next year at 612.9 billion won. This represents an increase of 35.9 billion won, or 6.21%, compared to this year's main budget. It is the first time that Jung-gu's main budget has exceeded 600 billion won. The 2026 budget proposal was finally approved at the 297th regular session of the Jung-gu District Council held on December 15. The general account stands at 558.1 billion won, while the special account is 54.8 billion won.


The district analyzed population composition, residential environments, and residents' interests based on the "Jung-gu Resident Status Data," and concentrated budget allocations on projects closely related to daily life.

Forty billion won will be allocated to these daily life-focused projects. This includes the full-scale integration and operation of the "Naepyeon Jung-gu Bus," a public shuttle for residents living in high-altitude areas without village buses (1.58 billion won), support programs for single-person households (390 million won), and support initiatives for companion animals (130 million won).


Approximately 179.2 billion won, or about 29.2% of the total budget, will be spent on welfare and health. The district will increase monthly transportation subsidies for seniors from 40,000 won to 50,000 won (3.7 billion won), and implement programs such as Senior Nutrition Plus (15.1 billion won), basic pension (60.9 billion won), livelihood and housing benefits (44 billion won), and support for activities for people with disabilities (9.5 billion won).


A total of 84.7 billion won has been allocated for education, childcare, and care services. The district aims to create a "Jung-gu where it is good to raise children" through care services (5.7 billion won), school meal and environment improvements (9 billion won), operation of Jung-gu-style career and experiential programs (1.4 billion won), and childbirth and childcare subsidies (2.2 billion won).


For job creation and revitalization of the local economy, 18.1 billion won will be invested. Customized jobs will be supported for all generations, from youth to seniors, including senior jobs (9.2 billion won), companion jobs (2.8 billion won), the Senior Club (440 million won), and the Eulji Unique Factory, an innovation startup platform (230 million won). The district will also issue mobile Jung-gu Love Gift Certificates (300 million won), operate the Jung-gu Commercial District Development Center (280 million won), and support the deployment of specialized personnel in traditional markets (270 million won).


Sixty-six billion won has been allocated for urban redevelopment. The district will steadily advance old downtown development through projects such as the district unit plan for the Hoehyeon-dong area (350 million won), rezoning of Jung-gu (200 million won), and the Hoehyeon-dong New:Village leading project (50 million won). Residential environment improvements will also be pursued in parallel, including support for facility improvements in apartment complexes (700 million won) and redevelopment consulting corners and maintenance project academies (40 million won).


Kim Gilseong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "Within limited resources, we worked closely with the district council to allocate the budget to projects that directly impact residents' lives." He added, "In 2026, we will do our utmost to promptly and smoothly implement the planned projects to make 'Naepyeon Jung-gu, a district that empowers its residents,' a reality."
