The Changwon Special City Council in Gyeongnam voted down disciplinary action against Kim Mina, a council member from the People Power Party, who had posted about Kim Hyeonji, the First Secretary to the President.
On the afternoon of December 19, the Changwon City Council held its 148th regular session, fourth plenary meeting, and put forth the 'motion for disciplinary action' against Assemblywoman Kim.
Previously, Assemblywoman Kim had posted on her social media about President Lee Jaemyung and Kim Hyeonji, the First Secretary to the President.
The post included the following: "Doesn't it seem like Kim Hyeonji and Lee Jaemyung are an economic community? Otherwise, is it possible to have such a special economic relationship for decades? For example, unless they share a child? Don't you think so?"
In response, the Special Ethics Committee, consisting of four People Power Party members and three Democratic Party members, decided that Assemblywoman Kim's post was 'not subject to disciplinary action,' and the People Power Party brought this as an agenda item.
However, the Democratic Party submitted a revised proposal in line with the recommendation from the City Council's Ethics Review Advisory Committee on December 1, which had called for a seven-day suspension and a public apology.
Ultimately, the final decision on whether to discipline Assemblywoman Kim was made through a secret ballot following a closed-door meeting, and it was decided that she would not be subject to disciplinary action.
