Proving Status as Gyeongbuk's Leading City for Investment Attraction
On December 19, Yeongju City solidified its status as a leading city for investment attraction in Gyeongbuk by sweeping all categories at the 2025 Gyeongsangbuk-do Investment Attraction Awards, held at the multipurpose hall of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government Office.
The Gyeongsangbuk-do Investment Attraction Awards is a system that comprehensively evaluates and recognizes the contributions to regional economic revitalization and job creation through investment attraction in three categories-local governments, investment companies, and public officials-among 22 cities and counties in the province.
Yeongju City was recognized for attracting a record-breaking 1.2 trillion won in investment, receiving the Grand Prize in both the local government and public official categories (with Nam Seungjae, an official in the Investment Promotion Division, winning the public official award). In the investment company category, Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd. received a special award, marking the achievement of winning in all categories.
The city has set “a vibrant regional economy” as its top policy goal and has focused its administrative capabilities on innovating the investment environment through the “Yeongju: A Business-Friendly City Project.” As a result, despite domestic and global economic uncertainties, the city attracted a total of 1.6327 trillion won in investments from five companies this year, creating 900 jobs.
The investment memorandum of understanding for the carbon-free power development project signed with Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd. in September reached 1.2 trillion won, the largest investment in Yeongju’s history. This project is expected to create about 250 high-quality jobs.
Additionally, Yeongju City has strengthened its field-oriented investment attraction activities and established a business-friendly investment environment through systematic and proactive administrative support, including amendments to the “Yeongju City Ordinance on Corporate and Investment Promotion,” strategic site feasibility studies, and research to enhance resident acceptance.
Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd., which received the special award in the investment company category, was recognized for its leading role in the transition to clean energy and its active promotion of the carbon-free power development project.
Yu Jeonggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju City, stated, “This award is the result of Yeongju City concentrating all administrative efforts on strategic investment attraction and corporate support for the future of the region. We will continue to create an environment where companies can invest with confidence, invigorate the local economy, and do our utmost to achieve sustainable growth and overcome the crisis of population decline.”
Recently, Yeongju City took its first step as a K-defense city by signing a 220 billion won investment agreement with Korea Defense Industry Co., Ltd. The city plans to use this as a springboard to become a hub for advanced defense industries, attract related partners, and expand the industrial ecosystem to create new growth engines.
