Train Operation Rate Expected to Drop to 70%
Train Adjustments Begin on the 19th
Korail announced that on the morning of the 19th, it held a nationwide video conference with local branch managers to review emergency transportation measures in preparation for the full-scale strike by the railroad union scheduled for the 23rd. Korail expects that once the strike begins, an average of about 250 trains per day will stop operating, reducing the operation rate to around 70 percent.
Accordingly, starting from the afternoon of the 19th, Korail restricted ticket sales for trains expected to be out of service between the 23rd and 29th.
Customers who have already booked tickets for trains that may be suspended will receive three text messages, requesting them to check the status of their train's operation.
Korail stated, "If the strike continues for an extended period, the planned expansion of KTX operations on the Jungang Line and Donghae Line scheduled for the 30th, as well as the addition of temporary trains for the year-end and New Year period, are also expected to be affected. We will do everything possible to ensure emergency transportation with safety as our top priority."
