SR, the operator of Suseo High-Speed Rail (SRT), announced on December 19 that it will operate a 24-hour Emergency Transportation Response Headquarters starting from December 22 in preparation for the nationwide railway union strike by Korail scheduled for December 23.
SR is a separate entity from Korail, and its own employees are not participating in the strike. However, disruptions may occur in outsourced work such as rolling stock maintenance, train crew services, and station guidance, which are currently entrusted to Korail. To prevent inconvenience to passengers due to these potential disruptions, SR plans to deploy as much of its own workforce as possible during the strike and to review its cooperation system with Korail.
SR had already established a proactive emergency response headquarters immediately after the railway union announced the strike on December 10, checking its readiness to respond.
Shim Youngju, Acting CEO of SR, stated, "Even if the railway union goes on strike, we will mobilize all available resources to minimize inconvenience to high-speed rail users," and added, "We will prioritize the interests of railway passengers and work to minimize inconvenience, including providing compensation as a top priority."
