Hampyeong County in Jeonnam Province has raised its profile nationwide as a leading region for return-to-farming and rural resettlement, having consecutively received awards in policy evaluations conducted by both Jeonnam Province and the central government.
On December 19, Hampyeong County announced that it recently received the Encouragement Award in the “Jeonnam Province Outstanding City and County Evaluation for Return-to-Farming and Fishing” hosted by Jeonnam Province, as well as the Performance Leap Award in the “Outstanding City and County Evaluation for Integrated Information Provision on Return-to-Farming and Rural Resettlement” organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
The Jeonnam Province Outstanding City and County Evaluation for Return-to-Farming and Fishing is conducted annually to comprehensively assess the implementation of return-to-farming and rural resettlement policies across 22 cities and counties in the province, with the aim of identifying and disseminating best practices and enhancing policy effectiveness.
Hampyeong County received high marks for establishing a systematic support system that spans from the preparation stage to early settlement in farming, centered on its Return-to-Farming and Fishing Stay-Type Support Center. The county provides tailored education and counseling, operates returnee houses, connects newcomers with leading farms for hands-on experience and education, and offers step-by-step training programs.
Through meetings and opinion gathering with the Return-to-Farming and Rural Resettlement Council, Hampyeong County actively reflected on-site needs in its policies. The county also organized events that brought together council members and local residents, helping to create a stable foundation for newcomers to settle in the community-efforts that contributed to its recognition in the comprehensive evaluation.
In the Outstanding City and County Evaluation for Integrated Information Provision on Return-to-Farming and Rural Resettlement, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Hampyeong County received the Performance Leap Award for systematically providing information on support projects and education and experience programs, thereby improving information accessibility and policy utilization for prospective returnees.
A Hampyeong County official stated, “It is very meaningful that our efforts to communicate and cooperate with returnees in various ways have led to significant achievements in evaluations by both Jeonnam Province and the central government. We will continue to make Hampyeong a place where returnees want to settle by providing systematic information and practical support.”
