Tourism Storytelling Linked to the Yeosu World Islands Expo
Yeosu City, South Jeolla Province, announced that it has officially begun production of its eleventh Yeosu tourism web drama, "The Island," with the goal of releasing it in March next year.
This series consists of five episodes, totaling 50 minutes, and tells the story of five childhood friends born on Yeosu’s islands who have lived different lives. As they face loss and conflict in a competitive society, the drama depicts their journey to overcome misunderstandings and generational differences.
The five episodes-"Once More, This Night," "A Dreamlike World," "Where Your Steps Remain," "You Whom I Cannot Face," and "Ebb Tide of Love"-are connected through the motif of a "torn map," allowing the past and present to communicate and heightening the immersion and enjoyment of the story.
Set against the beautiful scenery of Yeosu, the protagonists recover hope and courage through one another, coming to appreciate the value of ordinary daily life.
In particular, the story centers on an incident in which the souls of Dohae and his son Daeheon are switched, offering a fresh perspective on generational conflict and understanding.
Within the drama, the character Dari symbolizes Yeosu’s 11 bridges, which connect the islands and the sea. This also aligns with the fact that this is Yeosu’s eleventh web drama, adding a special layer of symbolism.
Additionally, reflecting the global spread of K-culture, the web drama features a romance narrative between Daeheon, an aspiring idol reminiscent of K-Pop Demon Hunters, and Ella, a foreigner.
Through the meeting and growth of these two characters, the drama naturally introduces Yeosu’s major tourist attractions and local charms, offering relatability and interest to a global audience.
Filming covers hidden spots on Nangdo and Chudo islands, as well as Yeosu’s representative tourist sites such as Jeokgeum Bridge, Gasari Reed Field, the zipline, and the marine cable car, capturing the region’s beauty and scenery on film.
An official from the city stated, “Yeosu City has most effectively conveyed the city’s charm and stories through web dramas. Our eleventh web drama, 'The Island,' will also present Yeosu’s unique sensibility and worldview to domestic and international tourists ahead of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo, offering them a new experience and image of the city.”
Meanwhile, Yeosu City’s web dramas have become signature content that goes beyond simple promotional videos, embodying the city’s identity and cultural symbolism through storytelling. Each production naturally highlights the diverse attractions of Yeosu, earning positive responses. Since the first production, "Shinjikki’s Love Story" in 2015, and up to this year’s "Shadow," Yeosu has continued to produce web dramas for nearly a decade, consistently receiving acclaim at domestic and international web festivals. The city is now recognized as a hub for web dramas and a leading region for K-content-based tourism promotion.
