21 Works by Pusan National University Professors Selected for 2025 Sejong Books and Outstanding Academic Books Lists

Balanced Achievements in Academic and General Categories
Pusan National University's Research and Writing Capabilities Recognized

The Pusan National University Library (Director: Woo Kyun, Professor of Information and Computer Engineering) announced on December 19 that 21 books authored or translated by Pusan National University professors have been selected for the "2025 Sejong Books" and "2025 Outstanding Academic Books" lists. This achievement demonstrates the university's research and writing capabilities, as well as its academic accomplishments, being recognized externally.


The "Sejong Books" list, organized annually by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea, selects general and academic books to foster a knowledge-based society. In 2025, a total of 776 titles were chosen. Among them, 12 works authored or translated by Pusan National University professors were included, with 7 in the academic category and 5 in the general category, reflecting a balanced achievement.


The Pusan National University professors' works selected for the academic category of the 2025 Sejong Books are as follows: "Educational Thought, Dialogue between Tradition and Present: Plato, Rousseau, Dewey, Foucault, Ranciere," co-authored by Kim Hoeyong, Professor of Education; "Thinking about Education and Fairness in the Age of Meritocracy," co-authored by Jeong Daeseong, Professor of History Education; "Eugenics Within Us: The History of Qualification and Disqualification, Discrimination and Exclusion," co-authored by Hyun Jaehwan, Professor at the Institute for General Education; "The History of Korean Soybeans," authored by Choi Deokkyung, Professor Emeritus of History; "Kind Histology," co-authored by Yoon Sik, Professor of Convergence Medical Science; "Introduction to Eco-Friendly Smart Ships," co-authored by Park Hyun, Lee Inwon, and Jeong Kwanghyo, Professors of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering; and "Glossary for Interdisciplinary Researchers: The Entanglement of Post-Qualitative Research, New Materialism, and Critical Posthumanism," translated by Jeong Hyeyoung, Professor of Early Childhood Education, among a total of 7 titles.


In the general category, the following 5 works were selected: "An Engineer Falls for Beethoven" and "An Engineer Talks about the Fusion of Art," both authored by Ha Changshik, Professor Emeritus of the School of Applied Chemical Engineering; "Locality of Busan: Reading Through Language," authored by Cha Yoonjeong, Professor at the Institute for General Education; "Stoic Philosophy and the Control of Artificial Intelligence Technology," translated by Lee Namwon, Professor Emeritus of Ethics Education, and Jo Sugyeong, Professor; and "Public Lectures on Japanese History," co-authored by Lee Seunghee, Professor of History. Of these, four titles-excluding "Public Lectures on Japanese History"-were published by the Pusan National University Press and Culture Institute.


Additionally, 9 works authored or translated by Pusan National University professors were included in the "Outstanding Academic Books" list, which is selected by the Ministry of Education and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea to promote research and writing in basic academic fields. This is out of a total of 279 titles selected for 2025.


The selected Outstanding Academic Books are: "Public Accountability," co-authored by Park Heejeong, Professor of Public Administration; "Literacy Education in the Multimedia Era," translated by Kim Myungsun, Professor of Korean Language Education; "A Study on the Darughachi System of the Mongol Empire," authored by Jo Won, Professor of History; "Ethnomathematics," translated by Shin Dongjo, Professor of Mathematics Education; "Viral Infections and Ordinary Differential Equations," translated by Park Hyungki, Professor of Biomedical Convergence Engineering; "Civilizational Transition in Early Joseon and the Horizon of East Asian Civilization," authored by Jeong Chulheon, Professor Emeritus of Chinese Literature; "A History of Changes in the Korean Curriculum," co-authored by An Kyungshik, Professor Emeritus of Education; "The History and Spirit of the Korean Cooperative Movement," authored by Oh Miil, Professor at the Institute for Unification and Korean Studies; and "A History of Modern and Contemporary Korean Translation Literature," co-authored by Lee Sanghyun, Professor at the Institute for General Education, and Lim Sangseok, Professor at the Jeompiljae Research Institute.


The Pusan National University Library holds the "PNU Faculty Publications Exhibition" annually, showcasing works selected as Sejong Books and Outstanding Academic Books. The books selected in 2025 will be displayed at the 8th Faculty Publications Exhibition next year.
