According to the county on December 19, the 'Aged Residential Area Improvement Support Project' is a program that supplies basic living social overhead capital (SOC) to densely populated, aged low-rise residential areas of 50,000 to 100,000 square meters designated as urban regeneration activation areas under the Urban Regeneration Act. The project aims to encourage residents to voluntarily improve their homes and to support the enhancement of residential environments tailored to local conditions.
This achievement was made possible through the close cooperation system established between Jinan County and the North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province, as well as through continuous preliminary consultations and proactive responses.
The Gunha District Aged Residential Area Improvement Support Project targets the densely populated, aged low-rise residential area in Gunhari, Jinan-eup, and will proceed over five years from next year until 2030 under the project vision of "Gunha, a Truly Livable Jinan." The project will include housing improvement, infrastructure supply, and the establishment of life safety facilities.
The total project budget is 15 billion won, with 8.1 billion won from the national government, 5.4 billion won from the local government, and 400 million won from inter-ministerial projects. A total of 12 detailed projects in 4 main categories will be implemented.
The main project details include: ▲ Housing improvement projects such as the renovation of 6 vacant houses and support for repairs to 20 homes ▲ Infrastructure supply including 1 off-street parking lot, 2 new roads, and 1 village rest area ▲ Establishment of life safety facilities such as 1 disaster response-type residential environment improvement and 1 crime prevention safety village ▲ Convenience facilities including the creation of 1 community health center and improvement of 4 senior centers.
To be selected for this competition, the county gathered local residents' opinions through the Urban Regeneration College and public hearings, reflecting these in the project plan and establishing a phased implementation strategy. The county also built a close cooperation system with relevant organizations and plans to provide tailored housing improvement support at each stage.
County Governor Jeon Chunseong stated, "Although Gunha District is the center of the town, it has long suffered from poor roads, narrow alleys, and a lack of life safety facilities, making the improvement of the old downtown residential environment an urgent issue. However, with this project selection, we can now inject new vitality into the area."
He added, "We will focus not only on simple physical environment improvements but also on enhancing the quality of life that local residents can truly feel. We will actively encourage resident participation to create a sustainable urban regeneration model."
