Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) is driving artificial intelligence (AI) innovation through cloud adoption in the public sector.

On December 19, KOTRA announced that it had received the "Minister of Science and ICT Award for Contributions to Cloud Industry Development" at the "Grand Cloud Conference 2025" held at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 18th. The award recognized KOTRA for successfully establishing plans to promote cloud adoption and AI transformation in the public sector. Cloud migration by public institutions is a core foundation of digital government, as it enhances security, stability, and efficiency while providing faster and more convenient services.

This year, KOTRA migrated 14 information systems, including its main website "Trade Investment 24," to the public cloud (National Information Resources Service Daegu Center). Through this, KOTRA has advanced its response system to external cyber threats and improved the operational stability of its information systems. Based on this cloud-based operational environment, KOTRA established its "Three Major AI Strategies," which include: expanding the use of AI in trade and investment support systems; supporting the globalization of the national AI ecosystem; and advancing AI utilization. Leveraging these strategies, KOTRA was recently designated as a leading public sector AI institution.

Last month, KOTRA was also recognized for its achievements in digital transformation by receiving the Minister of Science and ICT Award at the "Korea Digital Management Innovation Awards." The agency was praised for its phased innovation linking cloud migration and AI transformation, which led to tangible results.

Building on the AI strategies established this year, KOTRA plans to promote the construction of an "Intelligent Trade and Investment Platform" by 2028. Through this initiative, companies will be able to more easily access trade and investment information and receive AI-based customized services. Lee Junghoon, Vice President and Head of the AI Trade and Investment Division at KOTRA, stated, "With the successful transition to the cloud, we are now ready for AI transformation and are preparing to build services for export companies. Going forward, we will use new AI technologies to resolve pain points in the export process and support successful overseas expansion."
