The city announced on December 19 that it had finalized the selection of 100 citizens through an open recruitment process held in November and completed the formation of the 2nd Citizen Promotion Group for the Peace Economy Special Zone, led by Vice Mayor Choi Byunggap, on December 18.
The 2nd Citizen Promotion Group for the Peace Economy Special Zone in Paju City (hereinafter referred to as the "Citizen Promotion Group") consists of four divisions: Economy, Education, Social Promotion, and Experts. The group is designed to reflect both expertise in each field and broad citizen representation. The composition by division is as follows: 18 members in the Economy Division (businesspeople), 27 in the Education Division (students and youth), 45 in the Social Promotion Division (general citizens), and 10 in the Experts Division (professors and engineers).
Going forward, the Citizen Promotion Group will play various roles until the designation of the Peace Economy Special Zone is finalized, including providing investment attraction advice related to the special zone, proposing policies in cooperation with universities and youth, promoting events and leading a citywide signature campaign, and reviewing development plans and offering policy advice.
While the 1st Citizen Promotion Group focused on building public consensus, the 2nd Citizen Promotion Group plans to go a step further by prioritizing practical activities to attract the designation of the Peace Economy Special Zone and strengthening competitiveness.
The official activities of the Citizen Promotion Group will begin in earnest after the "Peace Economy Special Zone Vision Declaration Ceremony," which will also serve as the official appointment ceremony on January 7, 2026. Starting with a citywide signature campaign and a Citizen Promotion Group workshop, the scope of activities will be gradually expanded.
Kim Kyoungil, Mayor of Paju, stated, "The Peace Economy Special Zone represents the future of Paju, created together with our citizens," and added, "Paju City will work in step with the Citizen Promotion Group to ensure that their active efforts lead to tangible results."
