Statement Released a Day After Teabing’s "Villains" Premiere
Actor Kwak Do-won, who had suspended his activities due to drunk driving, has issued an apology after three years.
On the 19th, Kwak Do-won stated through a press release, "It took me a long time to write this," adding, "I was afraid, deeply ashamed, and could not easily find the words to speak in the face of my wrongdoing." He continued, "Once again, I sincerely apologize to everyone who was hurt and disappointed by my actions."
Previously, in September 2022, Kwak Do-won was fined 10 million won under a summary order for drunk driving in Jeju Island, with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.158%. Following this incident, all scheduled project releases and acting activities were suspended.
He admitted, "In 2022, I committed the serious wrongdoing of drunk driving," and said, "Since then, I have repeatedly questioned myself about whether I deserve to stand before people again." He added, "During this time, in the quietness that followed, I reflected on how I should live as a person."
Regarding the delay in his apology, he said, "I am sorry for not apologizing earlier and for missing the right time to express my position." He went on, "Before resuming any activities, I will demonstrate responsibility through my actions. I will not seek quick forgiveness. I will prove myself not with words, but with how I live."
Kwak Do-won appeared in the Teabing original series "Villains," which was released on an online video service the previous day. The series finished filming in 2022 and was originally scheduled for release in 2023, but its release was postponed indefinitely and it was finally made public three years after wrapping up production. His image does not appear on the poster.
This marks Kwak Do-won's first drama appearance since "Never Give Up" in 2022.
