The Korea Housing Welfare Award is a system in which the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport comprehensively evaluates outstanding cases and achievements in housing welfare among all basic local governments nationwide, and selects and awards exemplary local governments that can serve as models for others.
This year’s evaluation was conducted in the 'Regional Specialized Projects' category among 226 basic local governments nationwide. The selection was based on a comprehensive assessment of four areas: the feasibility and implementation efforts of each local government's housing welfare plans, the distinctiveness and originality of their policies, the effectiveness of their projects, and the potential for future expansion.
Seongnam City received high marks for its integrated housing welfare strategy under the motto "A Reliable Start, Housing Welfare Together." The city implemented customized public rental housing operations, home repair projects for vulnerable groups, housing cost support for young people and families with multiple children, and the operation of a counseling center for the prevention and support of victims of lease fraud, all of which contributed to improving citizens’ housing rights.
Mayor Shin Sangjin stated, "This award is the result of our customized housing welfare policies aimed at making Seongnam a more livable city," adding, "We will continue to expand and strengthen our housing welfare policies so that all citizens can live in a stable residential environment."
