Man in His 30s Kills Live-in Girlfriend He Met in Japan
A man in his 30s who murdered his live-in girlfriend in a studio apartment in Incheon and concealed her body for three years and six months has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term.
According to Yonhap News on December 18, the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 14 (Presiding Judge Son Seungbeom) sentenced the man, identified as A, to 27 years in prison for murder and concealment of a corpse during the sentencing hearing held that day. The court also ordered that A wear an electronic ankle monitor for 15 years following his release from prison.
A was indicted on charges of killing a woman in her 30s, identified as B, with whom he was living in a studio apartment in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, in January 2021, and concealing her body for three years and six months.
Investigations revealed that he used detergent, air fresheners, and other substances to mask the odor from B's body, successfully hiding the crime for an extended period. The crime came to light after A was arrested for fraud and other unrelated offenses and could no longer manage the body. In July of last year, a building manager reported a foul odor coming from a room where they had lost contact with the resident, leading police to discover B's body at the scene.
A met B in Japan and lived together in Korea. It was confirmed that on the day of the incident, he committed the crime during an argument with B, who had said she wanted to return to Japan.
