President Lee Receives Briefings from the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, and Defense Acquisition Program Administration
President Lee Jaemyung stated, "We must always demonstrate and prove that our community has not forgotten those who made extraordinary sacrifices by providing them with special compensation." This reflects his intention to strengthen recognition and compensation for those who have devoted themselves to the nation.
On December 18, during his opening remarks at the work briefings of the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, President Lee said, "When we reflect on whether we are truly providing adequate compensation to members of our community and their families who have made extraordinary sacrifices to protect the community, we come to the conclusion that we have not." He continued, "If we do not respect, honor, and compensate those who have sacrificed and devoted themselves for the sake of the entire community, who will step forward when we face another crisis?"
Regarding the defense sector, after expressing gratitude to military personnel and defense officials, he remarked, "Although there was some confusion in our society for a while, the military has, on the whole, maintained its position well, demonstrating loyalty to the nation and the people, and fulfilling its duties properly. That is why the Republic of Korea exists as it does today."
President Lee described national security as "the most important thing for the survival of the national community, preserving the community itself," and added, "Although it is an extremely important matter, it is so crucial and commonplace that it is easy to become desensitized to it." He went on to say, "As you reflect on how important your work is, I ask you to fully carry out your essential duties as the military of the people, so that the Republic of Korea can continue to exist as a truly powerful nation in the world."
