Annual Production of 330,000 kWh of Electricity
Generating 70 Million Won in Annual Revenue
Additional Reduction in Electricity Costs
An eco-friendly public solar power generation facility, constructed using the unused rooftop space of Kintex Exhibition Hall 1 in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Donghwan), Gyeonggi Province, will begin operations in January 2026.
Approximately 1 billion won from the city budget was invested in this newly operated solar power facility. With a generation capacity of about 256 kW, it is expected to produce 330,000 kWh of electricity annually, generating annual revenue of 70 million won. In addition, it is anticipated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50 tons per year, which is equivalent to planting around 10,000 pine trees.
The city has also secured a total project budget of approximately 2.6 billion won, including 1.1 billion won in national funding and 1 billion won in city funding, by applying for the 2026 New and Renewable Energy Supply (Convergence Support) Project, which is overseen by the Climate and Energy Environment Department.
Of this, 1.1 billion won will be used to install solar power modules (BIPV, 52 kW) on the walls of buildings other than the rooftop of Kintex Exhibition Hall 1, as well as geothermal heat pump generation facilities (735 kW) that utilize the temperature difference in the ground beneath the building.
By integrating clean energy generation facilities on the building's rooftop, walls, and underground, the city expects to achieve an additional annual reduction of about 50 million won in electricity costs.
Meanwhile, the city has installed a public solar power generation facility promotion kiosk in the lobby of Kintex Exhibition Hall 1, guided by 'Haetsari,' which has received an enthusiastic response from children visiting Kintex.
Goyang Special City plans to continuously promote the supply of new and renewable energy to achieve 100% renewable energy usage (RE100).
