On the morning of the same day, Sokcho City held an opening ceremony at the newly established public postpartum care center in Yeongnang-dong, attended by local community leaders, heads of related organizations, and citizens.
The Sokcho Public Postpartum Care Center is a public health facility designed to ease the financial burden on families after childbirth and to provide mothers and newborns with a safe and comfortable environment for postpartum recovery and care.
It was established to strengthen the public infrastructure for stable postpartum health management services in the region.
Since its completion in September, the center has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and an updated operating system. It has also obtained official Barrier-Free certification to ensure that mothers can use the facility without inconvenience.
The center features professional nursing staff, a breastfeeding room, various health management programs for physical and emotional recovery, and a systematic infection prevention system, all aimed at providing a healthy start for babies and ample recovery and rest for mothers.
To achieve this, Sokcho City has secured experienced professionals with many years of postpartum care center management experience and has implemented systematic pre-service education and training programs to ensure comprehensive care for mothers and newborns.
As a result, the Sokcho Public Postpartum Care Center is expected to provide high-quality postpartum care services by combining the reliability and accountability of a public facility with the expertise and on-site experience of the private sector.
Sokcho City will accept applications to use the public postpartum care center until December 23. If the number of applicants exceeds capacity, users will be selected by lottery, and the center will officially begin operations on January 1 next year.

Meanwhile, mothers who have been registered residents of Sokcho City for at least five months as of the application date are eligible for up to a 50% reduction in usage fees. Among Sokcho citizens, national merit recipients and their bereaved families, basic livelihood security recipients, those in the lower-income bracket, single-parent families, and multicultural families can receive up to a 70% reduction. Those who give birth at the obstetrics and gynecology department of Sokcho Medical Center are eligible for an additional 10% discount.
Lee Byungsun, mayor of Sokcho, stated, "The Sokcho Public Postpartum Care Center is the long-held wish of Sokcho citizens and a clear demonstration of our city’s policy commitment to ensuring that childbirth and child-rearing are no longer solely personal responsibilities. Through professional management, we will provide postpartum care services that citizens can trust."
