72-Year-Old Grandmother Takes the Stage at Taiwan Bodybuilding Competition
"Sweat Is the Best Anti-Aging Secret," Goes Viral Online
A 72-year-old grandmother has become a sensation after showcasing her impressive muscles at a bodybuilding competition in Taiwan.
On December 17 (local time), the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported, "Lin Suizi, 72, from Taipei, Taiwan, has become popular online, earning the nickname 'bodybuilder grandmother.'
According to the report, Lin Suizi recently participated in the 2025 President's Cup Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship. She competed in the over-70 category, displaying a solid physique, well-defined muscle lines, and a confident smile.
Before gaining attention as a bodybuilding athlete, she worked for several years as a diabetes educator at the Minsheng Community Center in Taipei. For decades, she advised patients with hypertension and diabetes on the importance of diet and exercise, but many found it difficult to follow her advice due to a lack of time.
In response, Lin Suizi decided to lead by example and show the changes that exercise could bring. At the age of 69, she began weight training to personally understand the "resistance exercises" she had been recommending to seniors.
In an interview with Taiwan's health magazine CommonHealth, Lin Suizi said, "I used to think weight training was simply about building muscle, but I realized it is actually an exercise that values the balance between health and muscle."
In 2023, Lin Suizi placed third at the national bodybuilding competition, and the following year, she finished second at the Taiwan Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (TBFA) Championship.
Weight Training Five Days a Week and a Diet Focused on Whole Foods
She credits her anti-aging secret to regular exercise and healthy eating habits. From Monday to Friday, she dedicates the first hour of every morning to weight training, and her diet is primarily composed of low-carbohydrate, whole foods. In addition, she continues to engage in various activities such as yoga, social dancing, and painting.
The transformation of Lin Suizi has surprised her family, especially her five grandchildren. Lin Suizi shared, "Once, while showering with my grandson, he saw me and exclaimed, 'Invincible Wonder Woman!'"
"Life's Second Half Is Long... You Should Learn New Things"
Lin Suizi said, "Many patients lament, 'What's the point of living long if you have nothing to do?'" She added, "Even as I grow older, I want to teach painting, dance, and weight training to people in nursing homes." She emphasized, "The second half of life is also long enough, and as long as you have the will, you can always learn new things and enrich your body, mind, and spirit."
Lin Suizi's story continues to attract attention online. One commenter wrote, "I can't believe she's 72. She looks at least 20 years younger. Sweat is the best anti-aging secret." Another commented, "Her grandson could easily boast, 'My grandma is stronger than you.'"
