72-Year-Old Grandmother Takes the Stage at Taiwan Bodybuilding Competition
"Sweat Is the Best Anti-Aging Secret," Goes Viral Online
A 72-year-old grandmother has become a sensation after showcasing her impressive muscles at a bodybuilding competition in Taiwan.
On December 17 (local time), the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported, "Lin Suizi, 72, from Taipei, Taiwan, is gaining popularity online as the 'bodybuilder grandmother.'
According to the report, Lin Suizi recently participated in the '2025 President Cup Bodybuilding·Fitness Championship.' She competed in the over-70 category, displaying a well-toned physique, defined muscle lines, and a confident smile.
Before gaining attention as a bodybuilding athlete, she worked for several years as a diabetes educator at the Minsheng Community Center in Taipei. For decades, she advised patients with hypertension and diabetes on the importance of diet and exercise, but many struggled to put this advice into practice, often citing a lack of time.
As a result, Lin Suizi decided to lead by example and show how exercise could bring about change. At the age of 69, she began weight training to personally experience the 'resistance exercises' recommended for older adults.
In an interview with Taiwan's health magazine Common Health, Lin Suizi said, "I thought weight training was simply about building muscle, but I realized it's actually an exercise that emphasizes the balance between health and muscle."
Lin Suizi placed third in the national bodybuilding competition in 2023 and went on to win second place at the Taiwan Bodybuilding·Fitness Association (TBFA) Championship the following year.
Maintaining Health with Weight Training Five Days a Week and a Natural Food Diet
She credits her anti-aging secrets to regular exercise and healthy eating habits. From Monday to Friday, she dedicates the first hour of every morning to weight training, and her diet mainly consists of low-carbohydrate, natural foods. In addition, she engages in various activities such as yoga, social dancing, and painting.
Her transformation has surprised her family, especially her five grandchildren. Lin Suizi shared, "Once, while showering with my grandson, he saw me and shouted, 'Invincible Wonder Woman!'"
"The Latter Half of Life Is Long... Always Learn Something New"
Lin Suizi said, "Many patients lament, 'If there's nothing to do, what's the point of living a long life?' Even as an older adult, I want to teach people to paint in nursing homes, dance, and introduce weight training." She emphasized, "The latter half of life is also very long, and as long as you have the will, you can always learn something new and enrich your body, mind, and spirit."
Her story continues to attract attention online. One commenter wrote, "I can't believe she's 72. She looks at least 20 years younger. Sweat is the best anti-aging secret." Another said, "Her grandson can proudly say, 'My grandma is stronger than you.'"
