Gapyeong County Health Center Unveils "Hidden Local Walking Trails" Based on Health Challenge
Introducing Hidden Trails by Region to Promote a Walking Culture in Daily Life
Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province has introduced hidden walking trail attractions throughout the region that gained popularity through a resident participation health challenge.
On December 18, Gapyeong County announced that it had selected the "Top 8 Hidden Walking Trails in Gapyeong County" based on the results of the health challenge held under the theme "Walking Trails I Want to Keep to Myself," which highlighted trails most frequently recommended by participants.
This selection of walking trails was promoted to spread a positive perception of walking and encourage healthy habits in daily life.
The first trail on the list is the Bukmyeon Beombawi Hiking Trail. With its gentle course, it is ideal for a leisurely walk, and a pavilion offers a place to rest while enjoying open scenic views. Located near 45-16 Hwaaksan-ro, Bukmyeon, it is also recommended to visit the nearby Mokdong Neighborhood Park Observatory (Bukmyeon Skywalk).
The second is the walking trail that leads from Mokdong-ri in Bukmyeon to Ssari-jae-gil. The long, stretching path has a friendly atmosphere, and even short walks here offer the simple pleasures of daily strolls. It can be found near 79 Ssari-jae-gil, Bukmyeon.
The third, the Bukmyeon Mokdongcheon Walking Trail, follows the embankment of Mokdongcheon Stream, allowing visitors to experience the changing seasons. Flowing water and the surrounding mountains create a different landscape for each season.
The fourth trail is the Daljeoncheon Walking Trail, which runs from Dumil-ri in Gapyeong-eup to Saekhyeon Tunnel. Starting from an alley between Chinese restaurants in Bukmyeon, Gapyeong-eup, it continues to Saekhyeon Tunnel. The area is characterized by its peaceful atmosphere with sprawling reeds. Saekhyeon Tunnel is also famous as a cycling spot and a popular photo location.
The fifth, Seorak-myeon Changui-cheon Walking Trail, is an impressive course where mountains and streams blend together. It can be found near 50 Jajam-ro, Seorak-myeon.
The sixth is the Cheongpyeong Station Leaf Path in Cheongpyeong-myeon. Boasting picturesque scenery throughout the year, it is especially popular in spring due to its many cherry trees. Located near 97-33 Cheongpyeongyeok-ro, Cheongpyeong-myeon, it offers a chance to enjoy nature in any direction you walk.
The seventh is the Samyeon Jat Hyanggi Pureunsup Walking Trail. This phytoncide forest path is suitable for people of all ages, with barrier-free and Korean pine forest trails as its main courses. The adult admission fee is 1,000 won, and it is closed every Monday.
The eighth and final trail is the Samyeon Suppul-i Firefly Garden. This quaint garden-style trail, featuring traditional elements such as a waterwheel and earthenware jars, is perfect for spending quiet time alone. It is located at 289-146 Chukryeong-ro, Samyeon.
Jang Woojin, Director of Gapyeong County Public Health Center, said, "The health challenge themed 'Walking Trails I Want to Keep to Myself' served as an opportunity to spread a walking culture in daily life," and added, "We hope that the 'Top 8 Hidden Walking Trails in Gapyeong County,' selected based on residents' recommendations, will help you enjoy walking and maintain your health even in winter."
