YK Law Firm has recruited Ko Kidong, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, as an advisor.

On December 18, YK Law Firm announced that by bringing in former Vice Minister Ko, who has played a key role in both central and local administration, it plans to strengthen its advisory capabilities in public policy and further refine its legal service system for corporations, public institutions, and individuals.

Ko Kidong, who has joined the YK Public Policy Group as an advisor, passed the 38th Civil Service Examination in 1994 and has since handled a wide range of planning, budgeting, organizational, and personnel affairs across central government agencies and local governments.

Having accumulated hands-on experience in policy coordination and organizational management at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Presidential Secretariat, and Sejong Special Self-Governing City, he has been recognized as a "policy planning expert" with a comprehensive understanding of administrative issues, based on his experience in planning and coordination at both the central and local levels.

Since the establishment of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in 2008, he has coordinated major national policy tasks and organizational management, serving as Director of Local Government Officials, Director of Regulatory Reform and Legal Affairs, Minister's Secretary, and Director of Planning and Finance. He later handled overall government organization and personnel management as Director of Regional Economic Support (2019), Director of Government Innovation Planning (2020), and Director of Personnel Planning (2021).

In Sejong Special Self-Governing City, he served twice as Director-General for Planning and Coordination (2016, 2017-2019), overseeing organizational management and policy coordination, and was appointed Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs in 2022, where he was responsible for regional policy implementation and organizational management.

After being appointed Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in 2023, he led major national policy initiatives including: stabilization of the next-generation local tax system, establishment of a response system to address local extinction, improvement of the support system for fair elections, and promotion of digital-based government innovation.

Meanwhile, in March of this year, during the response to large-scale wildfires in the Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongsangnam-do regions, he served as Acting Minister of the Interior and Safety and as the head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCHQ), overseeing wildfire suppression and disaster recovery efforts in cooperation with related agencies. He led the overall response system, including announcing the progress of firefighting, inspecting affected areas, and coordinating support for victims and recovery procedures.

Based on this experience, former Vice Minister Ko is expected to provide strategic advisory services at YK Law Firm, covering public policy and national agenda consulting, administrative regulatory response, crisis management strategy support, and digital administration transition for public institutions and corporations.

Former Vice Minister Ko stated, "Based on my experience in both central and local administration, I will contribute to policy and administrative consulting for public institutions and corporations."
