Gyeonggi International Airport and Carbon Neutrality Towns to Be Established
Yang Gi-dae, former lawmaker of the Democratic Party and former mayor of Gwangmyeong during the 6th and 7th popular elections, announced his candidacy for Gyeonggi Province governor on December 18.
On this day, Yang held a press conference at the National Assembly's Communication Center, declaring, "With a solemn determination to take responsibility for a bold transformation and the future of Gyeonggi Province, I am announcing my candidacy for governor."
He highlighted his achievements as mayor of Gwangmyeong, such as transforming Gwangmyeong Cave into a tourist attraction and developing the KTX Gwangmyeong Station area, saying, "I turned Gwangmyeong, once considered a peripheral city of Seoul, into a first-class city that now draws national attention."

Yang stated, "As a politician with an administrative background nurtured by the Democratic Party, I will decisively shape the future of Gyeonggi Province with my proven experience and drive," adding, "I will see through the great transformation of Gyeonggi Province without fail."
He pointed out, "Although Gyeonggi Province's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) has already surpassed that of Seoul, the per capita income of its residents still remains at around 70% of Seoul's level," and pledged, "I will make Gyeonggi Province the engine of opportunity for Korea and a 'first-class seat' where residents can stand tall with pride."
Among his major pledges, he promised to gradually make public transportation fares free. In addition, he vowed to usher in an era of 300,000 won monthly rent for young people and newlyweds, with the provincial government covering any amount exceeding 300,000 won. He also committed to achieving carbon neutrality by building Gyeonggi International Airport, completing the advanced industry super belt, promoting an energy expressway, and creating 500 energy self-sufficient towns.
