Alternative Plan Preserves Gugi Park
and Utilizes Techno Mart
Gwangjin District in Seoul (Mayor Kim Kyungho) has resolved the issue of the temporary terminal for the Dongseoul Terminal modernization project after more than a year of communication with local residents.
On the 19th, the district announced that it had finalized a plan to utilize the Techno Mart and the main Dongseoul Terminal site as the location for the temporary terminal, instead of Gugi Park, which had previously been considered. This decision reflects residents' concerns about damage to trees, noise, and traffic issues.
The district held two resident briefings in May and July last year, gathering feedback from over 400 residents. Mayor Kim Kyungho personally met with resident representatives in July last year and June this year to hear their requests to preserve Gugi Park.
From January to May this year, the district operated a "conflict resolution council" eight times, with participation from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the project developer (Shinsegae Dongseoul PFV), resident representatives, and conflict resolution experts. In July and August, nine expert advisory meetings were held to review alternative sites, including the old government office site, Jayang 5 District, and the Gwangjang-dong sports facility site.
According to the finalized plan, the ground floor loading dock of Techno Mart will be used as the boarding area, and the available underground space will serve as the ticket office and waiting room. The drop-off area will utilize the surrounding area of the main Dongseoul Terminal site. The green space in Gugi Park will be fully preserved.
This approach is expected to address residents' concerns while revitalizing the business district around Techno Mart. Recently, Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon also visited the site and announced the project plan and changes to the temporary terminal, giving the project further momentum.
The district plans to implement measures to minimize inconvenience to residents during the operation of the temporary terminal, such as traffic management and noise reduction, and will continue to communicate with residents living near Techno Mart.

We will continue to communicate tirelessly to minimize residents' concerns and maximize the benefits of regional development."
