A video showing a man, presumed to be Korean, being apprehended and removed from a plane by Vietnamese security officers on a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Busan has gone viral on local social media platforms, sparking controversy. It has been reported that the man was escorted off the plane after behaving inappropriately toward a Vietnamese female passenger.

On December 17, videos and posts claiming that "a Korean man harassed a Vietnamese woman on a plane" were shared on Vietnamese social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok. The footage, filmed inside the aircraft, shows two security officers making the man, who appears to be Korean, stand up from his seat and then escorting him out of the cabin. The man resisted being removed but was ultimately forced off the plane.

"Go back, Oppa"... Outrage on Vietnamese Social Media

Another video, apparently filmed after the man was removed from the plane, was also uploaded. The footage shows the man kneeling and sobbing in a praying posture in front of the airport arrival hall. Wearing a white short-sleeved T-shirt with a Taegukgi (the South Korean flag) emblem, he was later seen pulling his suitcase and speaking to airport staff.

Local social media users claimed, "This man repeatedly behaved and spoke strangely and acted inappropriately toward the female passenger next to him," adding, "He was eventually removed from the plane by security for safety reasons." Vietnamese news-related social media accounts referred to the man in the video as "OPPA," saying, "Hurry up and go back to your country," and "Your bad habits have come out overseas."

"Most Ashamed of the Taegukgi Emblem"... Testimony from a Korean Passenger

Testimony also emerged from a Korean social media user who said they were on the same flight at the time. According to the user, the incident occurred around 12:05 a.m. on December 14 on a VietJet Air flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Busan. The user stated, "At first, I thought (the victim) was his girlfriend, but her expression looked extremely flustered," and claimed that the flight's departure was delayed by more than an hour because of the incident.

In particular, the user commented, "The embarrassment is ours to bear. I am most ashamed of the Taegukgi emblem. He should be punished," and warned, "Seriously, don't live like that. You were dragged out of the plane, and they opened every overhead bin to check each owner. Because of the delay, I almost missed the bus home. Get your act together."

According to the Aviation Information Portal System, VietJet Air flight VJ982, which was scheduled to depart from Ho Chi Minh City and arrive at Gimhae Airport at 6:55 a.m. on December 14, actually arrived at around 8:20 a.m. However, the exact cause of the delay has not been disclosed.
