Global Expansion Centered on SCREENX and 4DX
CJ CGV is set to accelerate the global expansion of its proprietary premium theater technologies, 'SCREENX' and '4DX.' The company aims to establish 2,000 'K-Theaters' worldwide by 2030, positioning the Korean-style cinema model as a global standard.
On December 15, at the 29th anniversary founding ceremony held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, CEO Jongmin Jeong announced, "We will accelerate the spread of SCREENX and 4DX so that K-Theater becomes the standard in the global cinema industry."
Jeong stated, "The Korean film industry has competitiveness not only in content but also in screening technology," and added, "As K-content garners global attention, K-Theater, based on Korea's innovative technology, will become a new growth engine for the global film industry."
The company plans to increase the number of K-Theaters from the current 1,300 worldwide to 2,000 by 2030. Jeong also said, "We will further strengthen our content technology competitiveness by fostering CG and VFX and investing in AI technology."
SCREENX is the world's first multi-projection theater, expanding the screen beyond the front to the side walls. 4DX is an immersive theater that combines motion chairs with environmental effects such as wind, light, mist, and scent for a five-sense experience. CGV is also operating 'ULTRA 4DX,' which combines both technologies.
CJ 4DPLEX, a CGV subsidiary, has formed partnerships with all five major global cinema chains, including AMC, Cineworld, Cin?polis, and Cinemark. The company plans to further expand collaborations with Hollywood studios and local theater operators in the future.
