Observatory and Garden Construction
Developing a Regional Tourism Hub Linked to a Four-Season Ecological Theme Park
Goheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced that it has completed the commissioning process for the 'Sunset Garden of Goheung District' project, which aims to transform the area into a new landmark and a major tourism landscape attraction in Goheung Bay, and has begun full-scale implementation.
This project is part of the 'Southern Region Metropolitan Tourism Development Plan' currently being promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The project was confirmed in December 2022 and is now being carried out by Goheung County.
The county plans to invest a total of 10.6 billion won in the Goheung Bay District (San 6, Yongdong-ri, Dodeok-myeon) to create a sunset observatory and caf?, a four-season themed garden, green spaces, and rest areas. These will be linked with existing tourism infrastructure to serve as a regional tourism hub.
The project is scheduled to begin construction in January next year and be completed by December 2027. The centerpiece will be a sunset observatory and caf? with a total floor area of 1,676 square meters and a height of approximately 30 meters, offering panoramic views of the stunning scenery along the southern coast of Goheung Bay and establishing the site as a prominent tourism landscape attraction.
Additionally, the county plans to invest a total of 5 billion won to develop a four-season ecological theme park with a total length of 2.7 kilometers on the inner side of the Goheung Bay seawall, as part of efforts to foster themed tourism in the Goheung District. This park will be landscaped for year-round use and is expected to create synergy with the Sunset Garden.
An official from the county's tourism policy office stated, "Once these projects are completed, Goheung's appeal will be further enhanced by linking with the surrounding tourism infrastructure in Goheung Bay," adding, "We will ensure the projects are implemented smoothly so that both local residents and tourists can enjoy this new destination for relaxation and leisure."
