The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Science University is holding the "2025 Academic Year RISE Project Customized Education Performance Expansion Workshop" and taking a commemorative photo.
This workshop was organized to share the operational achievements of the customized education program, which was implemented as part of the Regional Innovation System for Education (RISE) project, and to discuss the future direction for expanding the educational model.
The core objectives of the workshop were to strengthen practical field competencies, enhance industry-linked education, and promote student-participatory class innovation.
This year, the Department of Emergency Medical Services operated a variety of field-based customized education programs, including field trips and experiential learning at the Korea Coast Guard Training Institute, a national licensing practical skills competition, and special lectures on suturing techniques in disaster situations. Through these initiatives, students’ situational judgment, on-site response capabilities, and teamwork skills were comprehensively improved. The department also received positive evaluations for enhancing the professionalism of industry-linked internships through cooperation with local emergency medical institutions. Additionally, the participation of graduates and current emergency medical professionals in the educational programs to share their practical experience further increased the effectiveness of the training.
This year, the expansion of student-led learning models, such as the student instructor system and peer learning-based practical training, established a mutually interactive learning structure where students "teach and learn." As a result, students’ self-directed learning and engagement levels have significantly increased.
A paramedic from the Busan Fire Department who attended the workshop remarked, "It was a meaningful opportunity to directly observe the educational outcomes from the field perspective," and added, "It was impressive to see the noticeable improvement in students’ response speed and judgment through practice-oriented education."
Park Youngsoo, Head of the Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Science University, stated, "The RISE Project customized education has strengthened students’ practical competencies and improved the overall quality of the curriculum. We will continue to systematize the specialized educational experiences accumulated this year, such as disaster, maritime, and night field training, and develop them into an educational model that makes a tangible contribution to nurturing local emergency medical personnel."
Next year, the Department of Emergency Medical Services plans to further expand field-oriented extracurricular programs focused on disaster response and pre-hospital emergency care, based on the customized education program, and to reinforce the educational system for training emergency medical professionals by strengthening cooperation within the regional network.
