Presentation at the "Gyeonggi Future-Oriented Science High School Regional Talent Selection Introduction Plan Forum"
Seongnam City has requested the provincial office of education to ensure that 40% of the total admission quota for new students at Bundang Central Science High School (currently Bundang Central High School), which is scheduled to open in 2027, be allocated to students from the Seongnam area.

The city expressed this position at the "Gyeonggi Future-Oriented Science High School Regional Talent Selection Introduction Plan Forum," which was hosted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and held on the 3rd floor Arena Hall of the Southern Office of Education in Suwon Iui-dong on December 17.
At the forum, Lee Jongbin, Director of Future Education at Seongnam City, delivered a presentation on the justification and necessity of reflecting a 40% quota for local talent selection in Seongnam.
He emphasized, "Considering the strong support and participation from the local community during the establishment of the science high school, the high academic enthusiasm and achievement of 23,233 middle school students from 45 schools, the strong desire among Seongnam students to attend a science high school, and the provision of city-owned land and budget support, allocating a 40% quota for local talent is a fair and reasonable request."
He added, "Seongnam City is home to many large corporations and advanced industries, which means there is significant potential for linking science high school education with the local industry. Through this, we can establish a virtuous cycle of future talent among the region, schools, and companies."
The city also plans to attend a similar forum on December 29 at 2 p.m. at the National Institute for International Education in Jeongja-dong, hosted by the Seongnam Office of Education, to once again stress the necessity of reflecting the 40% local talent quota.
Previously, on March 9, Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin officially requested the inclusion of a 40% local talent quota for the science high school to National Assembly member Kim Eunhye and Gyeonggi Superintendent of Education Lim Taehee.
At that time, Superintendent Lim Taehee responded, "As Seongnam City's contribution to science education through the science high school becomes more evident, we will positively consider a local quota."
To support the transition and opening of Bundang Central High School as a science high school, Seongnam City amended the ordinance on educational expense subsidies on October 13. The city plans to construct a new dormitory and research building on the provided city-owned land, and to remodel the main building and other facilities.
