Granddaughter Chokes on Jelly... 'Superwoman' Appears at the Crucial Moment

Gangwon Police Sergeant Saves Life with Emergency Aid
"The Benefactor Who Saved My Granddaughter's Life... She Saved the Baby"

The story of a police officer saving an 18-month-old baby who choked on jelly through emergency treatment has drawn public attention.

According to the Gangwon Police Station on December 16, on November 24, in the Gyodong area of Gangneung, Gangwon Province, an 18-month-old girl, referred to as A, suddenly lost consciousness while eating jelly in her grandparents' car.

The cause was the jelly that A was eating. The jelly blocked her airway, leaving her unable to breathe. Startled by the sudden incident, the grandparents quickly pulled their car over to the side of the road and, holding the unconscious A in their arms, looked around for help.

At that moment, Sergeant Han Areum of the Gangneung Police Station, who happened to be passing by in her car, noticed A's grandparents. She immediately stopped her vehicle and approached them. After quickly assessing the situation and obtaining the guardian's consent, Sergeant Han promptly performed the Heimlich maneuver on A. The Heimlich maneuver is an emergency procedure that applies pressure to the chest to expel a foreign object from the airway when it is blocked.

Sergeant Han administered emergency treatment for 30 seconds, and eventually, the jelly blocking A's airway was expelled. It was reported that A subsequently regained consciousness. When emergency responders arrived after receiving the report and checked A's condition, they found that, fortunately, there were no health issues.

After the incident, A's grandfather sent a handwritten letter to the Gangneung Police Station. He expressed his gratitude to Sergeant Han, calling her "the benefactor who saved my granddaughter's life." He also shared the story on the National Petition Board, stating, "She appeared like a superwoman at a moment when we were at a loss, not knowing what to do, and saved the baby," expressing his deep appreciation.

The Gangwon Police Station shared this story on its official social media account. The police station emphasized, "Gangwon Police will continue to do their utmost to ensure the safety of residents at all times."
