Uljin County Agricultural Technology Center Recognized as Excellent Institution and Best Team
at the Comprehensive Evaluation of Rural Development Projects
The success or failure of agricultural policy is revealed only after passing through the seasons.
The Uljin County Agricultural Technology Center, led by Director Son Yongwon, was awarded the Excellent Institution Award at the 2025 Comprehensive Evaluation of Rural Development Projects hosted by the Gyeongbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services. In addition, the Food Crops Team achieved the distinction of receiving the Best Team Award.

This evaluation comprehensively assessed a total of nine indicators, including efforts to expand the technological dissemination infrastructure across rural development projects, achievements in spreading new technologies to address on-site challenges, and performance in implementing measures to prevent agricultural work-related accidents.
This recognition is a result of the high evaluation of the “Uljin Agriculture Grand Transformation” policy, which was implemented to respond to changing agricultural environments such as labor shortages and climate change, and has produced tangible, field-oriented results.
Uljin County has taken the lead in strengthening agricultural competitiveness by introducing smart agricultural technologies, including the creation of a special field demonstration complex, establishment of a shiitake mushroom cultivation complex, construction of a new tissue culture laboratory, and building a digital production base for onions.
Furthermore, the county has supported the stable settlement of young farmers by operating a drone pest control team for young agricultural workers. It has also promoted the activation of rural convergence industries linked to processing and tourism by developing designs for specialty product processed goods and supporting the operation of farm parties at rural educational farms.
In particular, the Food Crops Team, which was selected as the Best Team, established a 150-hectare double-cropping mechanized farming complex in the Wolsongdeul area of Pyeonghae-eup, achieving a 200% increase in both farmland utilization rate and agricultural income compared to single-crop rice farming.
Son Yongwon, Director of the Uljin County Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "This simultaneous recognition as an excellent institution and best team is the result of the Uljin Agriculture Grand Transformation achieved by both farmers and staff. We will continue to proactively respond to the changing agricultural environment and further develop sustainable agriculture in Uljin."
