This is the second such donation following last year, and it was organized to help alleviate the financial burden on families where grandparents care for children due to the absence or illness of their parents. The donated funds will be used to support practical living stability, including living expenses, educational costs, and medical expenses.
The donation ceremony was held in a simple manner at City Hall, attended by Kim Yongyeon, head of the Namyangju Branch of the National Government Employees' Union, and Won Byeongil, CEO of the Namyangju Welfare Foundation, who both emphasized the need to expand support for grandparent-headed households and the importance of continued attention.
Vice Mayor Hong Jisun stated, "This donation is a meaningful form of support that directly contributes to the basic living stability of children," adding, "The city will continue to expand various welfare policies to ensure that foster care families can live stable lives."
Kim Yongyeon, branch head, said, "Grandparent-headed households are among those in the community that require the most careful attention. We hope that this small but warm gesture will bring hope to these families, and the Government Employees' Union will continue to fulfill its social responsibility and take the lead in community care."
The grandparents from the recipient families expressed their gratitude, saying, "We were greatly comforted by this unexpected support. We will take it as encouragement to take even better care of our grandchildren and do our best."
Meanwhile, the Namyangju Branch of the National Government Employees' Union, with a total of 2,516 members, is the largest city and county branch in the country. In addition to protecting the rights and welfare of its members, it actively participates in sharing activities to support community care.
