Song Eon-seok: "Six of the Ruling Party's Eight Evil Laws Indefinitely Postponed... Must Be Blocked No Matter What"

"Unification Church Special Prosecutor Bill"
Aiming to Submit Early Next Week

Song Eon-seok, Floor Leader of the People Power Party, stated on December 17 that eight controversial bills being pushed by the Democratic Party of Korea have been effectively postponed indefinitely, urging, "No matter what happens, let us stand together to block the eight totalitarian evil laws."

At the Policy Members' Meeting held at the main building of the National Assembly that afternoon, Song referenced the recent tent protest and filibuster by the People Power Party, saying, "At first, the Democratic Party believed they could easily push through the eight evil laws and tried to force them through, but so far, according to their own words, six of the bills have been either postponed or put on hold until next year."

Song added, "From the public's perspective, this is an indefinite postponement or even abolition. We have strongly raised issues and fought against these bills, and as a result, it has been reported that the special panel for dedicated trials will now be recommended by the Minister of Justice or external parties. Through our struggle, we have managed to secure significant changes to problematic aspects."

He continued, "Next week, after two bills are introduced, it is difficult to predict what strategy the Democratic Party will adopt, but I ask everyone to remain united so that, no matter what situation arises, we can block the eight totalitarian evil laws together."

Regarding the so-called "Unification Church Gate" special prosecutor bill, which concerns allegations that the Unification Church provided money and valuables to Democratic Party figures, he said, "There is talk of trying to submit the bill as early as the beginning of next week."

Song stated, "This morning, I met with Chun Haram, Floor Leader of the Reform Party, to discuss the special prosecutor bills regarding Min Junggi and the Unification Church-Democratic Party bribery allegations. We fully agreed on the basic principle that the special prosecutor bill should be submitted and must go forward."

He went on, "There are still differences of opinion about how and by whom the special prosecutor should be recommended, but I think we are close to reaching a broad agreement. We plan to gather and communicate each party's opinions again within this week."

Song also criticized the Min Junggi special prosecutor team for conducting a search and seizure of People Power Party lawmaker Kim Ki-hyun in connection with the investigation into First Lady Kim Keon-hee's alleged Roger Vivier bag, stating, "All testimonies have already been collected, so for the special prosecutor to storm into the National Assembly building with only a few days left before the deadline is purely an act of public humiliation."

Song asserted, "There is clearly a low-level ploy to make it appear as if there is something wrong with our party. We must strongly condemn the outrageous search and seizure by the Min Junggi special prosecutor."
