Expansion of Public Interest, Competency-Based, and Community-Based Job Opportunities
Gijang County (Governor Jeong Jongbok) announced on the 17th that it will be recruiting participants for the "2026 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Program" until the 26th, in order to support vibrant retirement lives and stable leisure and income activities for seniors.
The total number of participants to be recruited this time, including the "Gijang County Senior Job Program," is 3,057, which is an increase of 368 compared to this year, offering seniors a broader range of opportunities to participate. The breakdown by project type is as follows: 1,790 for public interest activities, 954 for competency-based activities, and 313 for community-based activities.
The public interest activity program provides jobs aimed at enhancing the public good in the local community, such as volunteering for senior meal services and marine environment protection. Participants work three hours a day, up to 30 hours a month, and receive an activity allowance of 290,000 won per month.
The competency-based activity program utilizes the experience and expertise of seniors in fields such as childcare, elderly care, support for people with disabilities, and public institution assistance. Participants work three hours a day, up to 60 hours a month, and receive a monthly salary of around 750,000 won, including weekly holiday pay.
The community-based activity program involves seniors jointly operating small-scale stores or professional business groups focused on industries suitable for the elderly, and is recruited through the Busan Gijang Senior Club. Major projects include Gijang Halmae Gukbap, Dynamic 6070 Delivery Service, The Barun Clean Project, Silver Product Receiving Center Project, and School Meal Support Project. Participants are paid at least 10,000 won per hour, depending on their working hours.
Eligible applicants are basic pension recipients aged 65 or older, although some business groups accept participants aged 60 or older. Applications can be submitted in person at the desired institution from the 1st to the 26th, and detailed schedules and application locations can be inquired at the Busan Gijang Senior Club, the Gijang County Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, and the Jeonggwan Senior Welfare Center.
Jeong Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, stated, "The Senior Job and Social Activity Support Program is expected to play an important role not only in ensuring the economic stability of seniors but also in preventing social isolation and enhancing their quality of life," adding, "We will continue to improve seniors' satisfaction by providing a wider variety of job opportunities."
