On the 17th, Seongnam City announced that it had established the "Seongnam City Environmental Center" within the Environmental Policy Department on the 5th floor of City Hall, and held an opening and plaque unveiling ceremony attended by Mayor Shin Sang-jin, representatives of environmental organizations, public officials, and about 20 participants in total.
The newly opened Seongnam City Environmental Center will serve as a key base for "environmental governance," connecting the public sector and civil society, going beyond simple administrative support.
The Seongnam City Environmental Center will strengthen support and cooperation systems with environmental organizations, conduct research and studies for environmental conservation, and develop and operate environmental education programs.
It will also play a bridging role by collecting on-site opinions from environmental groups and citizens regarding environmental issues and actively reflecting them in city policies.
In particular, the city has hired new professionals in the environmental field to enhance the expertise of the center's operations. Through this, the city aims to systematically develop data-driven policies and respond swiftly to the rapidly changing climate crisis.
