Yangpyeong County Receives Final Approval for '2040 Sewerage Maintenance Master Plan'... 1.7 Trillion Won Investment to Begin in Earnest

18% Expansion of Sewerage Treatment Area and 9.4 Percentage Point Increase in Coverage Rate by 2040

Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jinseon) announced on the 17th that, following the final approval of the '2040 Yangpyeong County Sewerage Maintenance Master Plan (Revised)' by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment on December 9, it will begin to actively implement its roadmap for expanding mid- to long-term sewerage infrastructure and improving water quality throughout the county.

The main points of the approved master plan include: expanding the sewerage treatment area by 18%, from 94 square kilometers to 111 square kilometers; increasing the sewerage service coverage rate by 9.4 percentage points, from 79.9% to 89.3%; expanding the capacity of sewage treatment facilities by 9,700 cubic meters per day to accommodate a planned treatment population of 151,178; and installing 951 kilometers of sewer pipelines. The county plans to secure a total project budget of 1.7 trillion won in phases to carry out the sewerage maintenance project.


Yangpyeong County is currently carrying out projects totaling 407.77 billion won, including: seven projects to expand public sewage treatment facilities by 10,100 cubic meters per day; nine projects to build or expand small-scale public sewage treatment facilities by 500 cubic meters per day; five projects to install 137.28 kilometers of sewer pipelines; five projects to upgrade 25.7 kilometers of sewer pipelines; a project to relocate 90 cubic meters per day of night soil; and a project to expand sewage sludge incineration facilities by 50 cubic meters per day.


In addition, as new projects for 2026, the county plans to expand the Guksu public sewage treatment facility by 2,100 cubic meters per day (with a total project cost of 21.077 billion won) and to upgrade 29.8 kilometers of aging sewer pipelines (with a total project cost of 31.176 billion won) in response to the urban development project around Guksu Station and continued population growth. The county expects to begin basic and detailed design work for these projects in the first half of 2026.


Yangpyeong County Governor Jeon Jinseon stated, "With the approval of the '2040 Yangpyeong County Sewerage Maintenance Master Plan (Revised)', a foundation has been established for balanced expansion of sewerage infrastructure throughout the county. We will make every effort to secure national funding so that the planned projects to improve residents' living environments and preserve river water quality can proceed without delay."
