Korea (Daejeon) has successfully secured the hosting rights for "Asiacrypt 2028," an academic conference on cryptography and information security that will bring together more than 600 experts from 40 countries worldwide.

The Daejeon Tourism Organization announced on December 9 that, in collaboration with KAIST and Korea University (Sejong), it has succeeded in attracting "Asiacrypt 2028," which is organized by the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR), to be held in Korea (Daejeon).

Asiacrypt is an international academic conference attended by over 600 cryptography and information security experts from 40 countries. It is held annually in the Asia-Pacific or Australia region, and the 2028 edition is scheduled to take place at the Daejeon Convention Center from December 11 to 15, 2028.

Daejeon City overcame the disappointment of Asiacrypt 2020, which had already been approved to be held in Daejeon but was conducted online instead of in-person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, by successfully securing the event once again. This achievement is especially significant as it provides another opportunity to bring the world's leading cryptographers back to the Daedeok Research Complex.

The competition to host Asiacrypt 2028 included proposals from four countries: Korea, the United Arab Emirates, China, and Pakistan. The Asiacrypt Steering Committee conducted a comprehensive evaluation of factors such as accessibility, international conference infrastructure, and city cooperation. Daejeon was ultimately selected as the host city after receiving support from five out of the twelve participating countries, prevailing in a highly competitive process.

Kim Kwangjo, Honorary Professor at KAIST and Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee as well as Director of the International Cyber Security Research Institute, stated, "Hosting the event in Korea will provide a platform to share the latest research results on cryptography and cybersecurity combined with AI, which are becoming increasingly important, and will help foster the next generation of domestic scholars."

Kim Yongwon, President of the Daejeon Tourism Organization, said, "Daejeon thoroughly prepared the foundation for re-hosting by establishing expertise in international conference management and demonstrating its suitability as a host city. Through the successful hosting of Asiacrypt 2028, we will do our utmost to enhance both academic achievements and participant experience so that Daejeon can emerge as a strategic hub for cryptographic research not only in Asia but worldwide."
