HMNex: "SMI Joins Yongin Cluster... Becoming Part of the 1,000 Trillion Won Semiconductor Belt"

SMI, a subsidiary of HMNex, will officially move into the 'Yongin Semiconductor Cluster,' which is being developed as the world's largest cluster of its kind.

On December 17, HMNex announced that its subsidiary SMI had passed the final screening for occupancy of the remaining parcel (A2B-1L zone, 11,252 square meters) in the 'Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex' located in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin City.

With this confirmed move-in, SMI has secured a strategic base within the Yongin Cluster, which is emerging as a global hub for the semiconductor industry. The site is adjacent to four state-of-the-art fabs currently under construction by SK Hynix with a total investment of 600 trillion won, and is expected to play a pivotal role in the future semiconductor equipment and materials supply chain.

The Yongin Semiconductor Cluster is the world's largest semiconductor mega-cluster, being developed with a total of 1,000 trillion won in private investment led by SK Hynix (Wonsam-myeon) and Samsung Electronics (Idong and Namsa-eup), with government support. Currently, SK Hynix began construction in February 2025, aiming to operate its first fab by 2027, while Samsung Electronics is also proceeding with procedures to establish a national industrial complex.

Through securing this Yongin base, SMI will begin full-scale expansion of its facilities to accommodate its growing global customer base, and will establish a sales and technical support network linking its Cheongju headquarters, Icheon branch, and now Yongin. Given that proximity to customers and speed of collaboration are directly tied to competitiveness for companies in the semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment sector, this move-in is expected to mark a significant turning point for expanding close cooperation with manufacturers.

Group-level support for the land acquisition will also be pursued. The sale price for the industrial complex parcel is approximately 14.8 billion won. The parent company, HMNex, plans to participate in raising the necessary funds. The company intends to supply liquidity through capital increases and other equity participation methods to support its subsidiary's land acquisition and future facility investments.

Development of surrounding infrastructure is also progressing favorably. The 'Nam-Yongin IC' on the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway, which passes near the complex, is scheduled to open within the year, dramatically improving logistics accessibility. In addition, following the opening of the Buk-Yongin IC in Mohyeon-eup in January 2025, the 'Semiconductor Expressway' (Hwaseong-Yongin-Anseong), which crosses the southern part of Yongin, has passed the eligibility review for private investment, accelerating the establishment of a wide-area transportation network.

An HMNex official stated, "This move into the Yongin Cluster is more than just an expansion of business sites; it is a symbolic step toward becoming a central player in the global semiconductor market. We will strengthen partnerships by narrowing the physical and technological distance with major global chipmakers, and use this as a core momentum for the company's second leap forward."
