Hyundai Mobis Recruits Former Samsung Electronics Executive Jang Hoyoung to Strengthen Global Supply Chain Competitiveness

Hyundai Mobis has strengthened its global supply chain competitiveness by recruiting a procurement expert from Samsung Electronics.

According to industry sources on December 16, Hyundai Mobis recently hired Vice President Jang Hoyoung, who previously oversaw procurement at the Network Business Division of Samsung Electronics.

Vice President Jang built his expertise at Samsung Electronics by managing procurement for telecommunications equipment and related components, specializing in large-scale global partner management and securing cost competitiveness. He led the establishment of global sourcing strategies, supplier management, and cost reduction initiatives as head of the Corporate Procurement Team under the Network Business Division, spearheading the optimization of procurement for 5G network equipment and key components. It is reported that he is currently transitioning to Hyundai Motor Group and has moved into an advisory role at Samsung Electronics as he completes his departure process.

Recently, Hyundai Mobis has been accelerating its transition to software-defined vehicles (SDVs). As a result, demand for high value-added components such as semiconductors, electronic parts, and communication modules is rapidly increasing, and the importance of proactive procurement capabilities for managing the global supply chain is also growing. In particular, as global supply chain uncertainties persist, securing stable supplies of key components and strengthening cost competitiveness have become core priorities at the group level. Therefore, industry analysts see the recruitment of Vice President Jang as highly significant from a strategic perspective.

With Hyundai Motor Group expected to announce executive appointments this week, there is also considerable interest in what specific roles will be assigned to newly recruited external talent. The recruitment of Vice President Jang is also interpreted as an extension of Hyundai Motor Group's shift in personnel policy, moving away from a traditional focus on internal promotions and actively utilizing external experts.
