International Joint Research in Decarbonization and Smart Transformation Accelerates
Pursuing Joint Participation in EU-Funded Research Projects

Korea Maritime Institute (KMI, President Cho Jeonghee) has begun strengthening its cooperation network with European research institutions specializing in ports and logistics.

KMI announced on the 16th that it had signed an Academic Cooperation Agreement for research personnel exchange and joint research initiatives with the University of Genoa (UniGe, President Federico Delfino) in Italy on December 10.

This agreement was established to expand cooperation with Europe, which is leading the way in decarbonization and smart transformation in the port and logistics sector, as well as to share relevant policies and research experience, thereby building a mid- to long-term international research collaboration system.

Under the agreement, the two institutions plan to cooperate in a variety of areas, including: ▲ mutual exchange of research personnel and research information ▲ hosting joint research exchange events such as seminars and lectures ▲ promoting joint academic and policy research ▲ discovering and jointly participating in EU and international organization-funded research projects.

Alongside the signing ceremony, the "KMI-UniGe Joint Research Seminar" was also held. Researchers from KMI's Port Research Division and the Center of Excellence in Logistics and Transport (CIELI) at the University of Genoa attended the seminar to share their institutions' major research achievements and engage in in-depth discussions on future joint research topics and directions for cooperation.

Federico Delfino, President of the University of Genoa, stated, "With this agreement, both institutions will actively exchange research capabilities and human networks, and we will provide strong support to ensure tangible outcomes from our joint research."

Cho Jeonghee, President of KMI, emphasized, "This cooperation marks a meaningful starting point for strengthening research collaboration between Korea and Europe in the port and logistics sector. By combining the expertise and experience of both institutions, we will expand international joint research and policy cooperation, and continue to contribute to addressing global maritime and logistics issues and enhancing competitiveness."

With this agreement as a foundation, KMI plans to expand cooperation with major European research institutions and accelerate the establishment of a global policy research and international cooperation platform in the port and logistics sector.
