Field-Oriented Policy Achievements Recognized, Including Full Subsidies for Childcare Fees for Foreign Children
Yeongju City announced that it received the Excellence Award in the qualitative evaluation at the "2025 Gyeongsangbuk-do Foreign Policy Outstanding Cities and Counties Assessment," which was hosted by Gyeongsangbuk-do on December 16, 2025.
This assessment was conducted to support the stable settlement of foreigners in the region through systematic foreigner and immigration policies, as well as to identify and share outstanding policy cases.
Targeting 22 cities and counties within the province, the evaluation comprehensively reviewed the current status of foreign residents, policy implementation efforts, system operation, and best practices, ultimately selecting a total of six outstanding local governments.
Yeongju City received high marks for several initiatives: being the first in the province to fully subsidize childcare fees for foreign children aged 0 to 2, establishing a pioneering foundation for settlement support; launching and regularly operating the "Foreigners Hope Connection Project Council" based on collaboration among the private sector, government, and academia; promoting employment competency training for foreign families in cooperation with the Yeongju Employment and Labor Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor; holding mobile briefings on region-specific visa programs; and building a collaborative system with related organizations. These diverse and proactive policies to support the settlement of foreigners were highly evaluated.
Yoo Jeonggeun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju City, stated, "This award is the result of our continued efforts to implement field-oriented policies that help foreign residents naturally integrate as neighbors and settle stably in the community." He added, "We will further strengthen our foreigner policies to create a discrimination-free living environment and foster community integration."
With this award as an opportunity, Yeongju City plans to further enhance the field-oriented nature of its support policies for foreign residents, expand service linkages in areas such as counseling, education, and daily life support, and continuously develop and operate participatory programs in collaboration with the local community, accelerating the realization of an 'inclusive city where everyone lives together.'
