KORAIL Introduces 'Super AI Station' Equipped with NVIDIA GB300

Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) will become the first in the world to introduce the "Super AI Station," equipped with NVIDIA's latest GB300 artificial intelligence (AI) accelerator.

On December 16, KORAIL announced that it had signed a business agreement at its Seoul headquarters with Supermicro Computer and Aquatron to develop AI technology specialized for railroads and to establish an innovative ecosystem.

Supermicro is a U.S.-based company specializing in high-performance server and storage hardware, leading global technology in high-efficiency servers. Aquatron provides eco-friendly AI data centers and high-density infrastructure solutions.

Under the agreement, KORAIL will be responsible for building, verifying, and evaluating a testbed for the development of railroad-specialized AI technology and the creation of an innovative ecosystem. Supermicro will donate the Super AI Station and provide consulting on AI infrastructure solutions, while Aquatron will handle system installation and technology development. Each party will cooperate according to these roles.

The Super AI Station from Supermicro, which KORAIL will deploy at railway sites, is designed to support the development, simulation, and on-site optimization of AI models by performing AI model training and complex inference tasks.

In particular, it serves as a key infrastructure to overcome the limitations of centralized AI and promote the transition to Edge AI. This enables rapid proof-of-concept for AI models without large-scale investment, which is expected to reduce introduction costs and accelerate project implementation.

The GB300 installed in this equipment is NVIDIA's latest AI acceleration platform, combining the newest Grace CPU and B300 GPU to deliver top-tier computational performance and energy efficiency for large-scale generative AI and real-time inference.

Through this, Edge AI can be implemented to perform AI computation near the data source rather than in a central data center, which is expected to significantly improve AI processing speeds.

KORAIL plans to utilize the Super AI Station to carry out AI proof-of-concept projects aimed at enhancing railway safety and public service. The company intends to move beyond a central server-based AI framework to pursue unit-level proof-of-concept and application that reflect the specific characteristics of railway operations.

Jung Jungrae, Acting President of KORAIL, stated, "This agreement will become a turning point for advancing the AI competitiveness of the domestic railway industry. We will actively adopt and utilize advanced overseas AI technologies to improve railway safety and the quality of public services."
