Large Number of University and Secondary School Students Selected at Gyeongju Love Scholarship Ceremony
Cumulative Scholarship Fund Reaches 19.5 Billion Won, Bearing Fruit in Local Talent Development
Gyeongju City is focusing on nurturing local talent through its scholarship programs.
The Gyeongju Scholarship Foundation held the ‘2025 Gyeongju Love Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony’ at the Alcheon Hall of City Hall on December 15, awarding a total of 1.017 billion won in scholarships to 600 students, including university, middle, and high school students.
More than 200 people, including scholarship recipients, their parents, and teachers, attended the ceremony to celebrate the growth of local talent together.
Scholarships were awarded to a total of 586 students: 2 million won each to 450 university students, 1 million won each to 87 high school students, and 500,000 won each to 49 middle school students, totaling 1.055 billion won.
In addition, in May of this year, the Gyeongju Scholarship Foundation awarded 1 million won each, totaling 6 million won, to six recipients of the ‘Proud Youth of Gyeongju Award’.
Furthermore, in July, the foundation provided a total of 5.5 million won in scholarships to winners of the National Youth Sports Festival: 500,000 won each to five elementary school students (2.5 million won in total) and 1 million won each to three middle school students (3 million won in total).
As a result, the foundation supported local talent development by awarding a total of 1.017 billion won in scholarships to 600 students this year.
Joo Nakyoung, Chairman of the Gyeongju Scholarship Foundation and Mayor of Gyeongju, said, “I hope the Gyeongju Love Scholarship, made possible by the warm support of our citizens, will support the dreams and challenges of each and every student,” adding, “We will continue to expand our scholarship programs to contribute to the advancement of local education and the creation of a better educational environment.”
Meanwhile, the Gyeongju Scholarship Foundation, established in 2009, currently manages a scholarship fund of approximately 19.5 billion won, supported by contributions from Gyeongju City, citizens, institutions, social organizations, and companies.
The foundation is working to reach its first target of 20 billion won, expanding its fund and continuing its activities to discover and support local talent.
