The 'Veterans Culture Award' is presented to individuals, organizations, or local governments that have carried out various activities to honor the spirit of patriotism and the achievements of those who have sacrificed or contributed to the nation and its people.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs has held the Veterans Culture Awards annually since 2000, and this year, five teams were selected through an open call and review process.

Uljin County was honored with the Veterans Culture Award in the local government category in recognition of its continuous respect and expanded support for veterans, as well as its contribution to spreading veterans culture in daily life through various events held with residents.

In January this year, Uljin County fully funded and implemented a 100% increase in veterans’ allowances, raising them to the highest level in North Gyeongsang Province. In May, the county established and enacted an ordinance for priority parking spaces for national merit recipients and created new parking areas, providing practical convenience for these individuals in their daily lives.

Additionally, Uljin County has provided increased operational support to nine veterans and reservists’ organizations, including the Disabled Veterans Association, supported academic conferences by the Liberation Association, organized security heritage site tours and visits to the National Cemetery for each group, and offered transportation support to veterans’ organizations.

To remember the sacrifices and dedication of heroes who served the nation, Uljin County has hosted events such as the Memorial Day ceremony, the Korean War commemoration, the April 11 Maehwa Gimi Independence Movement, the April 13 Heungbu Manse Festival, the Unknown Soldiers Joint Memorial Service, and the Security Association’s One Heart Festival. These events have created opportunities for residents to participate together, share, and remember the value of veterans in the community.

An official from Uljin County stated, "Receiving the Veterans Culture Award is the result of our continuous efforts to spread respect and honor for national merit recipients and their families throughout the community," adding, "We will continue to promote various veterans culture policies so that honoring veterans naturally becomes part of everyday life."
