Gyeongsan City, North Gyeongsang Province, and Ulsan Join Forces to Promote Joint Construction of the Gyeongsan-Ulsan Expressway

Signature Petitions Reflecting Citizens' Hopes to Be Submitted to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on December 17

On December 16, the city of Gyeongsan (Mayor Cho Hyunil) announced that Mayor Cho Hyunil, together with Lee Cheolwoo, Governor of North Gyeongsang Province, and Kim Dukyum, Mayor of Ulsan Metropolitan City, adopted a joint declaration for the construction of the Gyeongsan-Ulsan Expressway at the city hall's main conference room.

The event was attended by Governor Lee Cheolwoo, Mayor Kim Dukyum, National Assembly member Cho Jiyeon, An Moongil, Chairman of the City Council, city and provincial council members, representatives from local businesses, and other officials from Gyeongsan City.

The joint declaration adopted on this day is part of a collaborative response among the three local governments to include the "Gyeongsan-Ulsan Expressway" in the "3rd Expressway Construction Plan (2026-2030)" to be announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport early next year. The declaration outlines: ▲ the establishment of core infrastructure to ensure the stability of national key industries and vitalize the local economy ▲ active identification and sharing of national interests ▲ strengthening of a cooperative system for co-prosperity in the Yeongnam region and balanced national growth ▲ and sharing the necessity and validity of this project with the public, businesses, and the local community.

On this day, Mayor Cho Hyunil of Gyeongsan stated, "More than 160,000 citizens, far exceeding our target of 100,000, participated enthusiastically in the signature campaign for the construction." National Assembly member Cho Jiyeon said, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the Gyeongsan-Ulsan Expressway is included in the 3rd Expressway Construction Plan by conveying the will of all citizens to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport."

Gyeongsan City, North Gyeongsang Province, and Ulsan Metropolitan City plan to deliver the joint declaration adopted on this day to Kim Yoonduk, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, on the morning of December 17. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is expected to announce the 3rd Expressway Construction Plan soon.
